Lesson plan 3
This lesson was a collaborative art lesson with a 4th grade science class at Harding school. These Tier 2 supports were given to struggling 4th grade science students. These students were struggling with the concept of the moon phases as it revolves around the Earth. An illustrated graphic was created of the moon, lit by the Sun, revolving around the Earth. Then to assist the students to remember the different phases, each phase was changed into a different cartoon character and facial expression. Each student was directed in drawing this illustration so each student drew their own illustration and kept them in a science notebook. An assessment was created to check the student’s understanding and skills in drawing.
This is the pre/post assessment of the science unit.
This is the example that was drawn with the students. The "I Do" portion. Each student drew their own version for their notebook.
This is the answer key for the assessment. Both co-teachers (the artist and the science teacher) used this.
This is a random sample from a student's cartooning/science notebook.
